Antarctica here we come

This is another temporary blog entry to update on our trip until I post the next part of the diary at the end of the month.
Firstly Steve is doing well, his head stitches have been removed, small finger healing nicely and the big hand wound is making progress, stitches have now been removed and the infection seems to be under control.  His worst moment was a couple of days ago.  He tried to step out of the way of a photographer, stepped on a dog who yelped and he thought it was going to bite him, trying to avoid this he lost balance and had to put his injured hand on the rail to steady himself.   Guess this helped squeeze the last of the puss out!
We’ve had 3 ports of call so far, Puerto Montt in heavy rain – rented a car with an American couple in an attempt to see some sights!
Punta Arenas where we had a lovely time visiting a local family.
Yesterday – the end of the earth, Ushuaia.  A small port at the tip of Argentina.
Between these places we have had some stunning scenic cruising seeing amazing glaciers, my favourite was a hanging glacier with waterfall underneath.
This morning we safely passed Cape Horn, it began in beautiful weather with great photo opportunities but minutes later the weather had closed in and it was stormy.
Now heading straight for Antarctica and so far getting great weather and calms seas in the Drake Passage but doubt it will last.
Hope you also had a nice Christmas.
Have uploaded a few photos so you can see that Santa made it here as well.

  1. So relieved to hear that Steve is doing better. Good luck with that little left finger.
